Unix servers create a "core dump" file (often named "core") when a script or program crashes for some reason. This file is intended to allow advanced programmers to debug the program that failed. The file is not directly created by Discus nor is it ever used by Discus.

This file may appear in one of your Discus directories if your server ever crashed during a Discus script or if a Discus script was ever terminated abnormally. (Fortunately, recent versions of Discus have proven quite stable, and very rarely are core dumps created.

Unless you are an advanced unix programmer and wish to debug the problem using the "core" file, you can safely remove the "core" file from whichever directory it appears in. Depending on the size of that file, this may save you considerable disk space.
