Whenever the FTP installation method is used, your customized distribution is given a ten-digit reference number. This reference number simply comes from a unix system's method of determining the time, which is, for the most part, the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970.
When you use the FTP installation method, a discus.conf file is generated for your site based on the parameters you enter on the setup form. For support purposes, DiscusWare retains a copy of the settings from this discus.conf file for a while, so that if you later request support, we are able to quickly view your discus.conf file, as that provides the basis of all support.
Your FTP reference number is contained within the "readme.html" file generated with your Discus distribution.
Your FTP reference number serves no other purpose than the support purpose explained above. Thus, if you have lost your FTP reference number, include a copy of your discus.conf file when contacting DiscusWare Support. You will never need your FTP reference number in the future (to upgrade, etc.).
