Discus 3.01 and lower - You can't. Upgrade to the latest available version of Discus (or Discus Pro) to add message counts.

Discus 3.10 and higher - You can. Message counts are supported in most skins (including the "tables2" skin, which is the default for Discus 4.0). Choose an appropriate skin, containing message count functionality.
