The tar.gz file appears to have the wrong length when downloading

Explanation of why the tar.gz file appears to have the wrong file length when downloading with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

It has been reported and confirmed that Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 does not properly download the Discus tar.gz file from DiscusWare's site. Apparently, Internet Explorer automatically extracts this file and converts it to another format without any confirmation or input from the user (you) to do so. Downloading freeware Discus produces a "tar" file of size approximately 1.5 MB, so when you have downloaded Discus, rename the file from "tar.gz" to "tar" and treat the file accordingly (do not use the "z" option when extracting).

Downloading Discus Pro seemed to produce either a "tar" file or a "zip" file randomly. Thus, we have modified our download script to give the appropriate file despite IE's automatic extraction routine. The file may be saved as "dlpro.php" depending on the settings of IE. Rename the file to the appropriate name (e.g., discus4_00_1-pro.tar.gz) before use.
