If you purchased Discus Professional but you have lost your license number or download password, here are some suggestions on how you can find it.

1. Look in your Version Manager. If you have Discus Professional 4.0 installed, your license number is displayed in the Version Manager. Log in to your administration program as the board administrator (typically "admin") and click the Version Manager link.

2. Look at your discus.conf file. If you are running Discus Professional 4.0 or higher, your license number can be viewed by looking at your discus.conf file.

3. Look in your records. When you purchased Discus Professional by credit card, you were instructed to print out the page that contained your license number and password. While you may have lost an electronic copy, you should still have the hard copy in your records. This will give you both your license number and your download password.

4. Look in your mailbox. You should have a message from DiscusWare, LLC with a subject line of "Discus Pro Registration - SAVE THIS MESSAGE" on the day you bought Discus Professional. This contains both your license number and your download password.

5. Look at your scripts. (Version 3.10 and below only.) On your Discus Professional board, FTP a copy of your "board-contact.cgi" script (or any other Discus CGI script, for that matter) to your local machine. Open it in a text editor. Near the top of the script, you will see displayed your Discus Professional license number. Once you have your license number, go to the secure purchasing system, log in (you may need to register if you never used the system before), and then from the menu, click the link for a forgotten download password.

6. Look at your ftpdiag.cgi script. If you still have your original ftpdiag.cgi script from a Discus installation, your Discus Professional license number is contained in the code of that script. FTP a copy of the script to your local machine and open it with a text editor. Do a search for "pro_license" in the script. You will see your Professional license number on that same line. Once you have your license number, go to the secure purchasing system, log in (you may need to register if you never used the system before), and then from the menu, click the link for a forgotten download password.

7. Use our automated license recovery system. If you have Discus Professional 4.0 installed and it is accessible over the internet, you can use the automated license recovery system. Our system will obtain the license number from your discussion board, and after you answer a few questions about the purchaser, your download password will be reset for you instantly.

8. If each of the above fails. Please use our license number retrieval form. The DiscusWare sales division will locate your license information and resend it to you, generally in 2-3 business days. Note that it is faster for you to recover your own license number using the procedures above than to wait for us to look it up for you!
