How to run the Discus program diagnostics

How to access your Discus program diagnostics to diagnose a wide variety of common setup problems.
Support Site Search

The easiest way to access the Discus program diagnostics (in version 3.10 and higher) is to log in to your administration program as the board administrator (typically "admin") and then click on the "Program Diagnostics" item.

If problems are preventing you from accessing administration, you can call the diagnostic script directly. The script is called "diagnose.cgi" (or "diagnose.pl", depending on your CGI extension choice) and is located in the Discus script directory. The following procedure will allow you to locate this file easily:

  1. Right-click on the link to your "Edit Profile" script, and choose to open this link in a new window.

  2. In the location bar, delete the text "board-profile". Do not delete any text except this!

  3. Insert the text "diagnose" where "board-profile" was. Your URL should look like this:

    http://your.server.com/cgi-bin/discus/diagnose.cgi

  4. Hit the ENTER key to cause your browser to load the page. If you get a 404 (Not Found) error, either you have a very old version of Discus or you did something wrong in steps 1-3 above. Try again until the diagnostics display something other than a 404 (Not Found) error.
