The following procedure allows you to change the board administrator's username from the default of "admin" to another username of your choosing.
-
Log into administration as the superuser (which at this point will be "admin").
-
Go to Moderator Manager and create a new moderator with the username that you wish to use for your superuser.
-
Edit your discus.conf file, changing the line "superuser=admin" to "superuser=newname" where you substitute in the new username for your superuser. Make sure that you transfer the discus.conf file in ASCII mode if you are using FTP. Note: when editing discus.conf, enter the new username in all lower case letters.
-
Log into administration as the new superuser and verify that you see the superuser functions when doing so.
-
Optionally, go to Moderator Manager and delete "admin".
-
For versions 3.10 and before: To set it up so that your new superuser is authorized to edit topics, if desired, use the Moderator Manager's "group" icon (version 3.10) or the Group Manager's "edit" icon (all versions) to set up editing privileges. In version 4.0 and higher, the board administrator is automatically enabled to edit all topics and groups.
