The Editor tab of the Appearance Manager allows the board administrator to edit selected configuration files, templates, and skin files.

WARNING! No verification of your changes is performed. You can break or corrupt your board by editing files or skins improperly. DiscusWare will provide NO ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER if you experience problems because you have modified files.

This page of the instructions will not tell you what content you need to put into the files you edit in order to make the files do particular things. For this, refer to the Discus Knowledge Center or the Discus Support Forum.

Many aspects of the interface require JavaScript support.

File permissions to save changes

To be able to save changes to a file, that file must have permissions that allow the web server to write to that file. For unix, files generally must have permissions of 0666 (rw-rw-rw-) or 0777 (rwxrwxrwx) for this to be allowed. File permissions can be set by FTP or telnet.

If a file shows up as "read only" when editing, this indicates that permissions have not been set up properly.

Editing a file

To edit a file, click the link under the file's name. This pops up a new window with an editor (your browser must allow JavaScript and pop-up windows in order to access the editor).

Click the "Word Wrap" button to toggle word wrapping on and off in the editor window.

Click the "Save" button to commit changes. Click the "Close" button, or simply close the button, to close the editor (any unsaved changes will be lost).

Editing a skin

To edit a skin, click the link under the file's name. This pops up a new window with an editor (your browser must allow JavaScript and pop-up windows in order to access the editor). This editor window will contain several boxes, one for each part of the skin. (For information on parts of skins, consult DiscusWare's Skin Primer.)

As when editing a file, click the "Word Wrap" button to toggle word wrapping on and off in the editor window. Click the "Save" button to commit changes. Click the "Close" button, or simply close the button, to close the editor (any unsaved changes will be lost).
