The Data Recovery utility is an interface available to the board administrator that allows the regeneration or recovery from pages that may have been
corrupted. Various other board maintenance operations, such as reindexing the board and generating new thumbnails for user pictures, can also be
accomplished through Data Recovery.
Data Recovery is not a toy
Although Discus Pro comes with many features that board administrators may want to try out, the features of Data Recovery should be used only when
they are needed. This document provides a listing of all data recovery features, what they do, and when they should be used. Data Recovery features
should generally not be used in other circumstances, as sometimes this can damage existing data.
As the old addage goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Keep this in mind as you utilize the data recovery features.
Data Recovery Options
Unless you really know what you're doing, you should start to see if your problem is on the following Symptom & Solution Guide.
Features of the tabs are explained on the following pages. Some of these recovery options are specific to Discus Pro and may not appear in the
freeware version.
-
Topics: Regenerate or rebuild the board topics page in the case of corruption or a failed
import of previously created topics.
-
Pages: Fix problems on pages, including any leftover problems from Discus 3.10 or before.
Regenerate subtopic lists on specific pages that are known to be corrupt.
-
Tree: Rebuild the board's "tree" files (i.e., reindex the board) if subtopic lists are not
working properly.
-
Search: Rebuild the board's search indexes, in the case that these have been corrupted or
intentionally deleted in the process of moving a board. This is used as well if the "stop words" list has been changed.
-
Upgrade: Run the version 3.10 to 4.0 upgrade procedure if this was not automatically run the
first time you logged in to administration after upgrading to version 4.0.
-
Other: Other miscellaneous data recovery utilities that do not fit well into the above
categories are contained on the "Other" page.
