Many features of Discus and Discus Pro rely on the ability of the discussion board to send e-mail messages to participants. These features include
e-mail notification of new posts, and in Discus Pro, sending of "activation keys" for new user registrations and forgotten password activations. In order
for the discussion board to send e-mail messages, you must first tell the Discus software about an available mail server that it can use to inject
messages into the internet mail stream. Additionally, you can set other options to customize the behavior of the e-mail functions.
-
Activation and Headers: Turn on e-mail notification and configure the "From" name and
address for e-mail messages sent through your board.
-
Notification Options: Choose various preferences regarding e-mail notification messages sent
by your board.
-
Reply by E-mail Through POP3 Mailbox: A powerful enhancement to the Discus 4.0 series is the
ability to monitor a POP3 mailbox for e-mail messages sent by your users to the board.
-
Technical Configuration of Mail Program: This is the most important part of setting up
e-mail notification, where you actually tell your Discus board about your mail server.
