Applying a customization
Each customization in this section has one or more files with the extension *.tmpl. These
must go into the appropriate subdirectory of your "templates" directory. We recommend that
you put them into "custom" for several reasons -- they will not be overwritten upon an
upgrade, and you can remove your customization and revert to the original file simply by
deleting the file from the "custom" directory.
Therefore, the following are the instructions for applying a customization file:
Start your FTP client and log in to the server that holds your Discus or Discus Pro
discussion board.
Navigate to the templates/custom subdirectory of your Discus administration
directory. For a default Discus installation, the administration directory will have a
name like discus_admin_9338243374 -- that's "discus_admin_" followed by a long string of
numbers.
Upload the revised "*.tmpl" file(s) in ASCII mode to the "custom" subdirectory.
Removing a previously applied customization
To remove a customization, follow this procedure:
Start your FTP client and log in to the server that holds your Discus or Discus Pro
discussion board.
Navigate to the templates/custom subdirectory of your Discus administration
directory. For a default Discus installation, the administration directory will have a
name like discus_admin_9338243374 -- that's "discus_admin_" followed by a long string of
numbers.
Remove the desired customized file(s) by deleting them from this directory.
Your Discus board will begin using the original file again.
Support Policy
Customizing program interfaces is a powerful method to change the operation of the Discus
program without tampering with the scripts themselves.
However, no support whatsoever is provided for customizations to the Discus
program templates!
