These installation instructions apply to Discus and Discus Professional 3.10 and lower (there are separate instructions for Windows console upgrades for Discus and Discus Pro 4.0). Note that the xxx in the file names represents the
patch number and international distribution, if any, that you have downloaded.
Upgrading preserves all messages, users, moderators, and so on from any previous version of Discus! If you are upgrading from version 3.01 or
before to version 3.10, please read these important upgrade instructions.
-
Download either the Discus distribution file (zip archive) from the Discus download site. Save this distribution file in any temporary directory
on your Windows machine.
-
Using a zip program, such as WinZip, open the distribution archive. Extract the distribution
archive to any temporary location on your Windows machine. Make sure you select the option to preserve subdirectory structure when you extract the
archive. If you are using WinZip, the "Check Out" option works especially well for this step, as it creates a temporary program group that contains
the initial setup script.
-
Using Windows explorer, navigate to the temporary directory that contains the "upgrade.pl" script. This directory is called discus3_10.
-
Double-click the "upgrade.pl" file. Follow the on-screen instructions. If double-clicking the "upgrade.pl" file does not bring up a window with
the setup questions, open a "Command Prompt" window, 'cd' to the directory, and type:
cd discus_download_directory\discus3_10
perl upgrade.pl
Follow on-screen instructions to complete your setup.
-
After completing the upgrade, you should log in to your board as the board administrator (generally, username "admin"). If any additional upgrade
steps are required, you will be prompted upon logging in. You can confirm your new version by going to your Version Manager.
